  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch of salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix well.
  3. Mix in pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture; fold in chopped pecans.
  5. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours (or up to 3 days) before baking.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop dough into balls and place on prepared sheets, spacing them apart.
  8. Bake for 12–13 minutes or until edges are lightly browned; let cool.
