Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm milk (105-110°F)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 ½ – 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and sugar in a bowl; sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture with butter, egg, salt, and flour (starting with 2 cups). Beat until smooth.
  3. Gradually add more flour until a soft dough forms; beat for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel until doubled in size (45-60 minutes).
  5. Punch down the dough, shape into rolls on a floured surface and let rise again on baking sheets until nearly doubled (another 45-60 minutes).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake rolls for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Brush with melted butter while warm before serving.
